About This Artwork

Created in 1855 by Octave Tassaert, "La Porte Fermee" exemplifies the timeless qualities of Romanticism, rendered with Figurative sensibility, with its dominant Brown tones creating subtle visual harmony. Nicolas François Octave Tassaert was a French painter of portraits and genre, religious, historical and allegorical paintings, as well as a lithographer and engraver. Reproduced with archival precision, this print preserves every detail of the original.

About the Artist
Nicolas François Octave Tassaert was a French painter of portraits and genre, religious, historical and allegorical paintings, as well as a lithographer and engraver. His genre pieces evoked the miserable life of the downtrodden in Paris and included a number of scenes of suicide. He further created sensuous images of women and erotic scenes. He was later in life active as a writer and poet. He was the grandson of the Flemish sculptor Jean-Pierre-Antoine Tassaert.
