The Englishman Thomas Stothard worked as a painter, illustrator and engraver. His father was a well-to-do London innkeeper. At the age of five Thomas Stothard moved to relatives in Yorkshire. There he went to school, where his artistic talent was already noticeable. After his school time Stothard started an education. He learned the art of designing brocade silk patterns.
