Pre Raphaelite Wall Art
WALL ARTThe Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded in London in 1848 by seven young artists, among them Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt. They rejected the academic tradition that traced its authority to Raphael, and looked instead to the sharp detail, bright unshaded colour and sincerity they saw in art before him. Their subjects came from Shakespeare, Dante, Arthurian legend and the Bible, often painted from real models outdoors with obsessive precision. The style was ridiculed at first, then defended by John Ruskin, and became one of the most recognisable strands of Victorian art.
