He received his education at the École des Beaux-Arts and then worked as a painter, draftsman and graphic artist. With the publication of his work "Henri IV et sa Cour" he achieved international fame. In addition, he developed into a real jack-of-all-trades and was also active as an architect, art writer and book illustrator.
