The first includes Baroque painting and the enormous workshop output of Peter Paul Rubens and his circle. The second produced nineteenth-century Realism, a strong Symbolist current around Fernand Khnopff and James Ensor, and one of the most inventive centres of Art Nouveau, in Brussels, where Victor Horta's architecture and the city's poster designers worked in the same idiom.
