About this artwork
Fall of the Giants is a chiaroscuro woodcut from three blocks, printed on four sheets by Bartolomeo Coriolano (1590–1676), dated 1638. The artist is catalogued as Italian. The original is held by the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the file offered here measures 2877 × 3894 px (4.2 MB). You will find it among Prints and Renaissance, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 25 works by Bartolomeo Coriolano, an Italian artist.
Bartolommeo Coriolano was an Italian printmaker during the Baroque period, mainly in colour woodcuts. His father, Cristoforo Coriolano, and brother, Giovanni Battista Coriolano were also woodcut printmakers, although there is some doubt over the actual relationship between Cristoforo and Bartolommeo Coriolano.
