About this artwork
Figures is a drawing, watercolor by Eugenio Lucas Velázquez (1817–1870), dated 1850–60. The artist is catalogued as Spanish. The source scan comes from the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the file offered here measures 2475 × 3400 px (2.4 MB). It is filed under Drawings and Romanticism, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 22 works by Eugenio Lucas Velázquez, a Spanish artist.
Eugenio Lucas Velázquez was a Spanish painter in the Romantic style, known for genre and costumbrista scenes which often featured fantastic elements. Nineteenth-century sources refer to him as Eugenio Lucas Padilla, which has caused some confusion, although it seems reasonable to assume that Velázquez was an adopted name.
