About this artwork
Fisherman is a print, woodcut by Yamamoto Kanae (1882–1946), dated 1906. The artist is catalogued as Japanese. The source scan comes from the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the file offered here measures 2337 × 3400 px (2.7 MB). It is filed under Prints, in portrait format.
Kanae Yamamoto was a Japanese artist, known primarily for his prints and yōga Western-style paintings. He is credited with originating the sōsaku-hanga movement, which aimed at self-expressive printmaking, in contrast to the commercial studio systems of ukiyo-e and shin-hanga.
