About this artwork
Frontispiece for the Catalogue of the Engravings of Thomas De Leu is an etching and engraving with burnishing on ivory laid paper by Charles Meryon (1821–1868), dated 1866. The artist is catalogued as French. This reproduction is based on the copy in the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 2078 × 3000 px (0.7 MB). Catalogued under Prints and Realism, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 447 works by Charles Meryon, a French artist.
Charles Meryon was a French artist who worked almost entirely in etching, as he had colour blindness. Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognised as the most significant etcher of 19th century France.
