About this artwork
King Charles IV of Spain is a public-domain artwork by Eugenio Lucas y Padilla (1817–1870). The artist is catalogued as Spanish. This reproduction is based on the copy in the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 1345 × 2250 px (0.8 MB). Catalogued under Drawings, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 2 works by Eugenio Lucas y Padilla, a Spanish artist.
Eugenio Lucas Velázquez was a Spanish painter in the Romantic style, known for genre and costumbrista scenes which often featured fantastic elements. Nineteenth-century sources refer to him as Eugenio Lucas Padilla, which has caused some confusion, although it seems reasonable to assume that Velázquez was an adopted name.
