About this artwork
Pehriska-Ruhpa is a hand-colored etching and aquatint, with selective glazing, on ivory wove paper by Paul Legrand (1816–1898), dated 1840/44. The artist is catalogued as French. The source scan comes from the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 2251 × 3000 px (1.6 MB). It is filed under Prints, in portrait format.
Paul Legrand, born Charles-Dominique-Martin Legrand, was a highly regarded and influential French mime who turned the Pierrot of his predecessor, Jean-Gaspard Deburau, into the tearful, sentimental character that is most familiar to post-19th-century admirers of the figure.
