About this artwork
Portrait of Armand Guéraud of Nantes, Printer and Man of Letters is an etching, from a tin plate, on grayish ivory laid chine, laid down on ivory card by Charles Meryon (1821–1868), dated 1861–62. The artist is catalogued as French. The original is held by the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 2026 × 2880 px (1.2 MB). You will find it among Prints and Realism, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 447 works by Charles Meryon, a French artist.
Charles Meryon was a French artist who worked almost entirely in etching, as he had colour blindness. Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognised as the most significant etcher of 19th century France.
