About this artwork
Rue des Toiles, Bourges is an etching and drypoint on verdâtre (greenish) laid paper by Charles Meryon (1821–1868), dated 1853. The artist is catalogued as French. This reproduction is based on the copy in the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 1320 × 2250 px (1.4 MB). Catalogued under Prints and Realism, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 437 works by Charles Meryon, a French artist.
Charles Meryon was a French artist who worked almost entirely in etching, as he had colour blindness. Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognised as the most significant etcher of 19th century France.
