Nude Wall Art
WALL ARTThe nude focuses on the unclothed human body as a subject of formal interest rather than as an incidental detail of a scene. In Western art it developed largely under cover of mythology, since a Venus or a Diana gave painters a respectable reason to depict the naked figure, as in the work of Titian and later Diego Velazquez. Academic training built on this by making the drawn or painted nude the core exercise of art schools from the Renaissance into the nineteenth century. A pre 1930 archive under this heading holds mythological nudes, academic figure studies and life drawings rather than modern photographic material.
