About this artwork
The Cow and Ass is an etching, printed in black, on tan wove paper by Charles Meryon (1821–1868), dated 1849. The artist is catalogued as French. This reproduction is based on the copy in the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 3000 × 1741 px (2.9 MB). Catalogued under Prints and Realism, in landscape format. Archive Lane holds 447 works by Charles Meryon, a French artist.
Charles Meryon was a French artist who worked almost entirely in etching, as he had colour blindness. Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognised as the most significant etcher of 19th century France.
