About this artwork
The Inferno According to Dante, from the Campo Santo Frescos in Pisa is a print, engraving in black on paper by Baccio Baldini (1436–1487), dated 1480/1500. The artist is catalogued as Italian. This reproduction is based on the copy in the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 3000 × 2395 px (3.1 MB). Catalogued under Prints and Renaissance, in landscape format. Archive Lane holds 18 works by Baccio Baldini, an Italian artist.
Baccio Baldini was an Italian goldsmith and engraver of the Renaissance, active in his native Florence. All that is known of Baldini's life, apart from the date of his burial in Florence, is what Vasari says of him: that Baldini was a goldsmith and pupil of Maso Finiguerra, the Florentine goldsmith who was, according to Vasari's incorrect claim, the inventor of engraving.
