About this artwork
The Lamentation is an oil on wood by Petrus Christus (1410–1475), dated 1455. The artist is catalogued as Belgian. This reproduction is based on the copy in the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the file offered here measures 4000 × 2930 px. Catalogued under Paintings and Expressionism, in landscape format. Archive Lane holds 22 works by Petrus Christus, a Flemish artist.
Petrus Christus was an Early Netherlandish painter active in Bruges from 1444, where, along with Hans Memling, he became the leading painter after the death of Jan van Eyck. He was influenced by van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden and is noted for his innovations with linear perspective and a meticulous technique which seems derived from miniatures and manuscript illumination.
