About this artwork
The Sickly Cryptogam is an etching with plate tone on blue-green laid paper with violet and red fibres by Charles Meryon (1821–1868), dated 1860. The artist is catalogued as French. The source scan comes from the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 1775 × 2250 px (1.0 MB). It is filed under Prints and Realism, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 447 works by Charles Meryon, a French artist.
Charles Meryon was a French artist who worked almost entirely in etching, as he had colour blindness. Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognised as the most significant etcher of 19th century France.
