About this artwork
Two Hares is a gouache (bodycolor), heightened with gum arabic by William Bell Scott (1811–1890), dated 1890. The artist is catalogued as Scottish. This reproduction is based on the copy in the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the file offered here measures 2834 × 2826 px. Catalogued under Drawings and Impressionism, in landscape format. Archive Lane holds 19 works by William Bell Scott, a British artist.
William Bell Scott was a Scottish artist in oils and watercolour and occasionally printmaking. He was also a poet and art teacher, and his posthumously published reminiscences give a chatty and often vivid picture of life in the circle of the Pre-Raphaelites; he was especially close to Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
