About this artwork
July and August (part of a set illustrating months of the year) is an oil on canvas; wood frame, painted yellow and gilded by Antoine Watteau (1684–1721), dated 1750. The artist is catalogued as French. The original is held by the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the file offered here measures 2113 × 3427 px (2.5 MB). You will find it among Paintings, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 42 works by Antoine Watteau, a French artist.
Jean-Antoine Watteau was a French painter and draughtsman whose brief career spurred the revival of interest in colour and movement, as seen in the tradition of Correggio and Rubens. He revitalized the waning Baroque style, shifting it to the less severe, more naturalistic, less formally classical, Rococo.
