About this artwork
May and June (part of a set illustrating the months of the year) is an oil on canvas; wood frame, painted yellow and gilded by Antoine Watteau (1684–1721), dated 1750. The artist is catalogued as French. This reproduction is based on the copy in the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the file offered here measures 1594 × 3508 px (1.6 MB). Catalogued under Paintings, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 42 works by Antoine Watteau, a French artist.
Jean-Antoine Watteau was a French painter and draughtsman whose brief career spurred the revival of interest in colour and movement, as seen in the tradition of Correggio and Rubens. He revitalized the waning Baroque style, shifting it to the less severe, more naturalistic, less formally classical, Rococo.
