About this artwork
The Gallery of Notre-Dame, Paris is an etching printed in warm black on verdâtre (greenish) china paper by Charles Meryon (1821–1868), dated 1853. The artist is catalogued as French. The source scan comes from the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 1424 × 2250 px (1.6 MB). It is filed under Prints and Realism, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 447 works by Charles Meryon, a French artist.
Charles Meryon was a French artist who worked almost entirely in etching, as he had colour blindness. Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognised as the most significant etcher of 19th century France.
