About this artwork
The Ploughman and His Horse is a print, reproduction of an etching on ivory laid paper by Charles Meryon (1821–1868), dated 1854. The artist is catalogued as French. The source scan comes from the Art Institute of Chicago, and the file offered here measures 2313 × 3402 px (1.1 MB). It is filed under Prints and Realism, in portrait format. Archive Lane holds 447 works by Charles Meryon, a French artist.
Charles Meryon was a French artist who worked almost entirely in etching, as he had colour blindness. Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognised as the most significant etcher of 19th century France.
