Seascapes Wall Art
WALL ARTThe sea entered painting first as backdrop and later as a subject able to carry weather, danger and scale on its own. Dutch marine painters of the seventeenth century established many of the conventions of the genre, recording specific ships and naval actions with an almost documentary precision. Later painters used the same subject more freely, treating storm, calm and coastline as studies in light and movement rather than as record. Harbour scenes and fishing fleets added a working, human dimension alongside the purely atmospheric. This grouping follows that shift from documentary marine painting toward the sea as a study in its own right.
